Write your first post

This page walks you from a blank box to a published or scheduled post, using Compose, the screen where one idea becomes a made-to-fit post for every app you publish to.

Typing an idea in Compose, adapting it for several platforms, and reviewing the per-app drafts

What is Compose?

Compose is where you bring one idea in plain words, pick the apps you want it on, and Quillcaster writes a separate draft made to fit each one. It is the heart of the product: a single box for your idea, a set of platform toggles, and a card for each draft that you can preview, edit, publish, or schedule.

Why start from one idea?

Writing the same caption five times, then trimming and reshaping it by hand for each network, is slow and it reads flat. Starting from one honest idea lets Quillcaster do that reshaping for you, so a punchy thread goes to Bluesky and a longer take goes to Mastodon without you rewriting anything. You describe what you want to say once, and you get native-feeling posts for every app.

How to open Compose

Click New post in the sidebar, or head to Compose from the main nav. You will need the editor or admin role to write and publish. Viewers can browse the drafts but can't adapt or publish them.

How to write your idea in plain words

Type your idea into the big box at the top. Write it the way you'd explain it to a friend, no formatting or hashtags needed. One or two honest sentences is plenty. You're describing what you want to say, not writing the final post: that part comes next.

How to pick a brand voice (optional)

If your workspace has more than one brand voice, choose one from the Voice menu so the drafts sound like you. If you have just one, or none set up yet, Quillcaster uses your workspace default. You can add a voice later and regenerate.

How to choose the apps to publish to

Under Publish to, click the platforms you want. Here's the honest state of play:

  • Bluesky, Mastodon, and Farcaster can be connected and posted to today.
  • LinkedIn, Threads, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest appear as targets and Quillcaster will draft for them, but connecting an account for these is still rolling out, so you can draft now and publish once your account is connected.
  • X, TikTok, and YouTube are marked "soon" and can't be selected yet.

You can select as many as you like. See connect an account for how connections work.

How to adapt for every platform at once

Click Adapt for N platforms. Quillcaster writes each draft in the background and they appear as cards below. Each one is genuinely different: a punchy thread for Bluesky, a longer take for Mastodon, a Farcaster cast, and so on. This is the point, one idea becomes many native posts. There's more on how this works in adapt one idea for every platform.

How to review, edit, or regenerate

Each card opens on Preview so you see the post as it will look. Switch to Edit to change the wording, then click Save edit. Not happy with a draft? Click Regenerate for a fresh version of that one card, or Add image to attach a picture (click to upload, then it processes). Instagram and Pinterest need an image before they'll publish.

How to publish or schedule

When a draft looks right:

  1. To go out now, click Publish. This is only available for a platform you've actually connected, so if you see a "Connect a [platform] account to publish" link instead, connect that account first.
  2. To send it later, click the calendar icon, pick a date and time under Publish at, then click Schedule. Best-time chips suggest good slots.

Scheduled posts show up on your calendar. If your workspace uses approvals, a draft has to be approved before it can publish, and you'll see a Submit for review button on the card.

That's your first post: one idea in, a made-to-fit version out for every app you publish to.
